In this post I want to talk about a cool SEO plugin that we use called WordPress SEO made by Yoast, and how to set it fill in all the details that you need.

This is quite easy to do and I would like to show you the basics in this post that will set you up for success when using this Plugin. Here is an example of a post that I did.

Here is the WordPress SEO section below where I already filled in all the necessary info. So let’s start with the General Tab on the Left Hand Side.

1. Snipet Preview: is what this post will look like on a Google search.
2. Focus Keyword: Here you choose the Main Keyword or Keyphrase that this post/page is about. You can also use the Page Title.
3. SEO Title: You can use what is given in the Snippet Preview
4. Meta Description: You can take a small amount of text from the article and put it here. It must contain the Focus Keyword. The more you use the Focus Keyword on your page/post the more change it will get a higher rating with Google’s search bots.

Next is the Page Analysis. Once you have published the page you will see a color displayed. Red needs a bit of correction, Yellow is okay, Green is the best. Just note, sometimes it isn’t possible to get green, for example. If you have a page with just Images on it, you won’t get a good score. So make sure that you do the SEO for those individual images that are on that page.

So let us look at the Page Analysis Tab. Below is an image of the results of the the previous info that I have provided. I have two Red dots, 4 Yellows and 5 Greens. I can see that the main issue is that I do not have enough content on the page/post. So just by adding more text there will be a big improvement to the total score for this article. In the Yellow area we can see a few things that we can change as well. So if most of these are attended to I’m pretty sure we’ll end up with a Green Rating.

There are two more Tab called Advanced and Social, here you will be able to fine tune how the SEO functions on for this page/post.

Feel free to play around with these settings if you feel comfortable, or just make use of the General and Page Analysis tabs.

In this post want to showcase an excellent tool called Publicize that allows you to link your social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter to your WordPress Website. When you publish a new post it will be able to then automatically be sent to your Facebook and Twitter accounts as well. This allows for a lot more exposure.

To be able to get this to work we will need to install a Plugin called JetPack. Follow this link if you are unsure about How to Install a Plugin.

Once you have installed JetPack we will need to set up the Connection with WordPress.com.

Once you click on the CONNECT TO WORDPRESS button, you will be taken to a Log In Screen where you will be asked to Log In with your WordPress details. Once you have done this it will then be linked to your account where you will be able to have access to Publicize.

Now that you are linked, you need to make sure that Publicize is working like you want it to. Click on the SETTINGS Tab on the left hand side then on the SHARING tab. This will give you access to the Publicize settings. Right at the top is a link with “More Information on using Publicize” This goes into depth on the finer details of how to set up publicize if you are unsure of anything. All your questions can be answered there. So now you can add which account you want to link to it. This post only covers the top section called Publicize and not the bottom section called SHARING.

When you click on one of the options it will direct you to the next step. I have used Facebook and it requires that I install an App to link it to my website.

When that is done you can then go to POSTS and create a new post. You will now see at the top right where the PUBLISH button is there is a section that shows the accounts you have linked as well as give you an option you can edit how it will appear on your linked websites.

In this post I would like to let you know about using a Custom Menu.

You will first need to Log Into your WordPress Backend. If you are unsure of how to do that, then check out this helpful Post about how to Log In.

How to log into WordPress

There are a few different ways that you can set up the MENU system on your website. We prefer and recommend the Custom Menu structure. This is a Standard Feature on WordPress, if you don’t see it in your Backend, then we recommend that you update your WordPress! So, let us have a look at Custom Menus. I suggest that you need to have created all the pages that you want on you website already. The MENU structure that we are about to use does not make new pages. It uses existing pages to create an MENU structure. So, once you have created the PAGES that you want on your website and are happy with them, then we can move onto the next section.

In the Backend go down to APPEARANCE and click on MENU.

This will take you to the page where you will be able to start making your own Custom Menu. This will allow you to easily add or remove pages on you website. The first thing that you will have to do is to name your MENU. We can call it Main Menu. Don’t forget to click on SAVE MENU.

NOW!! It is very importance that you do this next step, otherwise your Custom Menu won’t work. On the left hand side is a drop down option with the title of Primary Menu. Here you need to select the MENU that you just created. Once you have Selected MAIN MENU, click SAVE.

So now we can move onto the next step. We need to now add the Pages that you already created to form the structure of the new MENU we care making. What we are doing here can be applied to POSTS as well as CATEGORIES. So go to the PAGES section as indicated in the image below. Make sure to use the VIEW ALL tab. This will list all of the PAGES that you have on your website. The next step is to Tick the Boxes of the pages that you would like to have selected. Once you are happy with the PAGES that you have selected, Click on ADD TO MENU.

Now the fun starts. All the PAGES will now be on the right hand side. You will need to put it in the appropriate position. All you need to do is Click and Drag. From the Image below, the page TEST A is a SUB MENU to HOME. TEST B is a SUB MENU to Get in Touch. TEST C is a SUB MENU to TEST D which in turn in also a sub menu. You can even change the name of the MENU if you want. Each MENU has a drop down option. From there you can make changes as you need. When you have organized everything as you want and are happy with it and checked again that your CUSTOM MENU is selected under “PRIMARY MENU” then go ahead and Click on the SAVE MENU button at the bottom right.

What makes this system so versatile is that you can always come back here at any time and make changes, add or remove menus and it will immediately reflect on your website.

If you have any further questions about this Post, feel free to let us know and we will see how we can assist you further. Make Contact

In this post I would like to cover the topic of how to make an out of office message with Webmail. I’ll run through the steps with you so there is nothing to worry about.

You will need to go to your Webmail Address. www.webmail.yourname.co.za You may be directed to a page that says that the site’s security certificate is not trusted. This warning will be displayed if you don’t have a security certificate on your domain. So it is safe to accept the warning and to click on Proceed Anyway. This will only be displayed the first time you try to log into your Webmail account. You can install a Security certificate on your domain to take this warning message off, but it’s not really needed. The only time we would recommend buying this certificate is when you have an online shop.

Once you have clicked on the Proceed Anyway button you will be at the log in screen. Here you can fill in your Email Address and Password. Then click on Log In.

Now you will be able to choose a few different options, but we are going to Click On the Auto Responders Button.

Welcome to the Auto Responder Page. Since we have not added any Auto Responder this list will be empty. So to start setting up the Responder, Click on the Add Auto Responder Button.

Here you can personalize the Email Responder. Fill in all the information as needed, when you are happy with what you have put in, then click on the CREATE/MODIFY button. You will always be able to come back here to modify this responder if the need arises. On the Next Screen you will be prompted to GO BACK. Click there to be taken back to the main page. If you want to check how your Auto Responder looks, want to make modifications just Click on the Auto Responders Button as indicated above and then you will be able to make those changes.

In this post I would like to cover two topics. Firstly, how to create a custom menu. Secondly I want to explain how to set up the page order if you choose not to use the custom menu. These are 2 different options available to you to make the menu on your website. Not every theme will allow you to do it the first way that I will show you, so I will explain an alternate way of doing it as well. You can do this at any stage of development on your website. Whether you have all your pages already created or you still plan on making new pages. Once you know where you need to go, then it is easy to make any additional changes later on.

First things first. You will need to log in if you want to make any changes to your website. If you are unsure of how to do that check out this link. How to Log Into WordPress.

When you have logged in you will need to go down to and click on the Appearance Tab on the left hand side. It will open up a few different options. We are interested in the one called MENUS. You can click on it now. If this is the first time you have been here, then it will look like the image below. To start off we need to create a new menu. Name it something like Main Menu, Page Menu or whatever you would like. Then click on the Create Menu Button on the top right.

Very Important! You will first need to select the Primary Menu drop down on the left hand side select Main Menu, or whatever you have name it. Once you have done this, we can move on to populating your Custom Menu. On the bottom left you will see a section called PAGES. Click on the View All tab. Then tick on the pages you would like to have in your menu. Once you have ticked the pages that you would like to have then you can go ahead and click on the Add To Menu button.

Now your Custom Menu is starting to take shape. I have added a few extra pages for this demonstration so you can get a better idea of all the options that are available. As you can see I have already done some organizing. All the items in this area are drag-able. So you can line them all up below each other if you want to have 7 pages or as I have done below. There are 3 pages, each with a sub menu and the last sub menu has it’s own sub menu. You can easily add more menus from the section on the left or remove the current menus that are already selected. Each tab has a drop down menu where you will be able to Rename it as well as Remove it as indicated below. When you are ready, click on the Save Menu button on the bottom right hand side.

This will now be visible on your website. Remember to press Ctrl + F5 to refresh your website to show the changes.

Let’s move on to the second way of making sure that your menu is functioning the way it should.. This is going to take a bit more explaining so hold onto your seat for this.

When you create a new page. You will have quite a few options available to you. We will focus on the info on the right hand side. We will be working with the Page Attributes Box. We will be looking at the Parent and Order. You can ignore Template as that goes beyond the scope of this post. So let’s begin.

Parent pages are the main pages that you see on the website. To make sure they are in a specific order we use the Order function. It works from 0 onwards. So REMEMBER 0 is the first in the order. 1 is 2 and 2 is 3. Crazy I know, but that’s how it works. So if the pages don’t follow the order you want always come back here and see that the first page is 0 and the second page is 1 and so on.

If you want to have a sub menu page then you will need to choose under which page you would like to appear. This is where you use the Parent option. Use the drop down menu to choose which page you would like the sub menu to be under. If you want multiple sub menu pages then you will need to order them in the same why as I explained above. Where the lower the number is the higher it will be on the menu.

Remember that when you make any changes on the page always click on the UPDATE button to save the changes that you have made.

I hope that from this post you will now have a better understanding of how to work with the Menus in WordPress. If you have any further questions let us know. Make Contact.

In this post we would like to let you know about adding a Media Gallery. This is a new built in feature that comes with WordPress version 3.5. This is a really powerful tool that now eliminates the need to have an extra plugin that might bog down your website. I really like the new Media Upload feature as well and it is all incorporated in one section. Right, so let’s get started. First off, you will need to create the Post or Page where you want the gallery to appear. For this example I’ll be making a new page. Remember that you will need to be logged into the Backend of your website. If you are unsure of how to log in, check out this post we did. Click Here. Once you have logged in and gone down to the Page tab on the left and click on Add New Page.

This will open up an new page with some more options. From here we will select the the Create Gallery option. It will display the images that are currently in your Media Library. You are also able to upload images from your computer if you wanted. Once you have selected the images that you want click on the Create a New Gallery button.

On the next page there are a few more options to be aware of. Here it is possible to rearrange the images into the order that you would like them to be. If you feel that you want to add more images to the current gallery, then all you need to do is click on the Add to Gallery button at the top left. On the right hand side are a few options to know about. You can test these out to see which you prefer. If you want images to be listed in columns then keep it all default. If you want one page that shows a slideshow, then click on slide show. If you are not happy with your gallery later on it is very easy to make changes to it. I’ll let you know about this in the next section. When you are ready, click Insert Gallery

Now you will have the gallery looking like the image below if you are working in visual mode, if you are working in text mode you will see a shortcode. At the point it is easy to make changes to the gallery. All you need to do is click on it and then again on the image at the top left. From there you can make changes as you need.

Well done. Now you are able to set up an Image Gallery on your website without the need of installing an extra plugin on your website. If you need any further assistance Click Here and let us know.
